First off love Mr. Krout’s writing!

This book definitely is a little better than the last one! Hopefully heading back in the right direction of keeping you interested and progressing the story. The last book just seemed like a whole lot of nothing. I felt like the story progressed, a little, in this book. I almost gave up on the series after the last two books. Which bummed me, because this is one of my current favorite series. After each book, I am biting at the bit for the next one. The last two books before this one, not so much!

I was excited to see he had already published the next book before I was done reading this one. So in conclusion, yeah this book “Invent” is worth the read and definitely worthy of the series! So stay tuned for what’s coming next for Joe the Champion of Tatum 😎

Joe continues to evolve his skills and the book continues in fine Krout style. If you’re interested in more action, however, this book has less than previous books. More focus on skill development. I was also hoping for a better resolution at the end of the book; feel like it was a mild cliff-hanger, which I don’t like to find in any book.

I was all for peace, but now I want to see the Elves decimated

The Ascetic is most certainly not going to like the consequences of this chain of events. Joe was willing to take a moral high ground here, but now, I think that the Elves will learn to fear humanity, rather than simply to look down on them.

And what happens when Joe actually becomes a master?

I did take one star off because this book just ended. Not really a cliffhanger, it just stopped and will be continued. Another thing that I noticed, but wasn’t too concerned about, though I hope it doesn’t continue, was that Joe seems to level skills very erratically. He’s constantly using Neutrality Aura and Exquisite Shell, and while those two are a bit higher than the others, it’s not much, and the others are quickly catching up to their only mediocre level.

Normally a fan of Krout but this book had some serious issues as far as I was concerned. For approximately 80% of the book Joe was acting like another character (Jaxom) for no apparent reason. It was utterly baffling given that there was no reason given whatsoever. It's as though Joe was written to be quirky on his own since he didn't have any meaningful party members to bounce his normal personality off of. Then, when you get along into the story around the 90% mark the story falls apart. The elven Royal Family is a puppet but apparently the dwarves are unaware? How is that possible when reincarnated dwarves have memories from being elves? Coupled with the fact that positions of authority don't change in the elven culture, it is impossible that the dwarves don't know who really governs. Why would the Oligarchy agree to even consider participating a peace accord with the puppet government instead dealing with the opposing High Priestess? Further, the System enforced, magically binding armistice contract didn't trigger during the peace meeting despite the Royal Family being aware of the fact that the entire proceeding was designed to kill the enemy leadership? Why?? The contract was specifically designed to counteract those types of hostile intentions. HOW did Herr Trigger utilize the guild teleport? If he didn't, and was part of the elven delegation, why was literally NO ONE monitoring him during the meeting proceedings despite the fact that he was part of the enemy delegation?? Why didn't Joe cast his illusion-countering ritual for the dwarves for use during the peace summit?? The whole sequence of events seems to be contrived so that the author could arbitrarily produce an end-game situation for the dwarven race. Write yourself into a corner much, fella? Even though I enjoyed to penultimate conclusion (such as it is) it was overshadowed by the fact that the author had to blow up the world for no good reason to get to where he took the story. Super, super disappointed.

Reviews are so hard, because on the one hand, I don’t want to spoil the book, but on the other, I want to tell you everything that I loved about it!

If you’ve been following along in the series, this one has a lot more movement packed in it than the last one does. Joe starts to delegate and gets a lot more done, and things start going his way! He’s advancing in his class and learning what it means to be an Apprentice to someone who is very probably crazier than Joe himself.

It was a good reminder why I started this series in the first place!

Be warned! There are PLENTY of puns and plays on words. If dad humor isn’t your thing, just roll your eyes, yell “Daaaaaaad” and keep reading because this book (and series) is a delight.

A fantastic read. I wasn't a fan of the second zone throughout book 6 but this book brought me round. This was a tightly focused story and the major characters are well-written and great fun. Only one negative for me and that is that I find myself switching off through the ritual/enchanting stuff as I find it a bit long-winded and difficult to follow without taking notes. Just a personal preference though, I'm sure others love it.
Desperate for the next one!
