After serving in the Army, Luke Harlow returns home in time for the holidays to help his brothers raise their twelve-year-old half-sister. With his new job as Marietta’s police officer, Luke finds himself in the middle of a festive mystery that the entire town will want solved before Christmas morning.
Mary Best is Marietta Courier’s most promising young reporter. When she starts spending time with sexy Luke Harlow to write an article about his heroic military service, she begins to suspect there’s more to this new police recruit than meets the eye. He’s kind, generous, and very mysterious. When anonymous gifts start appearing around town for people in need, Mary knows there’s a story there. A magical one. It doesn’t take long for the breadcrumbs to lead right back to Luke.
As the gifts pile up, so does everyone’s urge to unmask Marietta’s secret Santa. Luke is deeply private, and Mary is deeply curious- opposites who’ll find themselves tumbling toward each other amidst the snowy backdrop of a town fully embraced in the spirit of Christmas. But when Mary uncovers Luke’s secret, will she be able to bury her reporter’s instincts for the sake of love? And will Luke finally be able to trust someone with his heart?

About the author

For Kaylie Newell, storytelling is in the blood. Growing up the daughter of two writers, she knew eventually she'd want to follow in their footsteps. While she's written short stories her whole life, it wasn't until after her kids were born that she decided to shoot for the moon and write her first romance novel. She's now the proud author of over twenty books, including the RITA® finalists, Christmas at The Graff and Tanner's Promise.
Kaylie lives in Southern Oregon with her husband, two daughters, a rambunctious terrier mix, a blind Doberman, and two indifferent cats.

Note to author: You really should have someone edit or at least proofread your work. Great writing, but mistakes kept pulling me out of the story.
Like is back in Marietta after serving his country. After 3 long furlows in Afganistan, he's more than ready to call it quots and head home again. Where he meets one of the most beautiful women he's ever laid eyes on. But he's realized that this woman has a few trusts isssues, but why? Can he get her to turn or a new leaf, or will they just part ways?
This story will warm your heart with hope and love. Both characters have their own problems to overcome, but together anything is possible. Anytime Marietta, MT is involved, I'm there. I loved the secret Santa take on the story. More towns could use people like Luke. And how sweet was it that he got his little sister to be his look out? Loved Scooter, too.
This is a story that I would recommend to everyone.
The obstacle separating the h & H is too one-dimensional.
Lots of misuse of words: squelch does not mean turn on; reign and rein are different words. In the author’s favor, she usually uses the comma in apposition: “Merry Christmas, officer.” But sometimes she forgets: At Loc 208, “this is for you sweetheart.”
There are also lapses in logic – one example is that the envelopes are left overnight on people’s doorsteps. What if it snows overnight? And will someone necessarily look down when stepping out the front door in the morning? Another example is when the H tells his sister that he could give the Secret Santa items from paycheck to paycheck, but this way (by borrowing from the bank) he can do more. Sorry – by borrowing from the bank, some of the money must go back to the bank to pay interest (probably a large amount since the author specifies that it’s a loan, presumably unsecured, and will have a high rate of interest).
The heroine is a superb reporter – everyone tells us so. Her boss says it, she’s asked to move to NYC by a paper there, etc. I never see anything showing how she’s such a good reporter, I just have to take the narrator’s word for it.
A minor complaint with the formatting: “Go to beginning” takes you to the title page, page 4. The story doesn’t start until page 54. The rest is copyright and about the author.
So why, if I have this many complaints, am I giving a high rating? Because I wanted to finish it, and that means it was well-written. I hope the author can live up to her potential as she gains more experience.
I would love to recommend it cuz it's easy read such good thoughts.
