How do you find someone who everyone claims doesn’t exist?
It starts as a game but ends in terror. Soon it becomes clear. Someone is chasing them.
After an accident, Peter’s mother is in a coma, and his father is unable to cope. Because of this, Peter has no other choice than to drop out of school, start a job, and take over the care of his little sister. One day he picks her up from school to take her to the mall, when the unthinkable happens. They’re being followed. And their pursuer is not from this world…
When his sister disappears, Peter starts to notice that more things are terribly wrong, especially when no one seems to remember her. Even his father claims he never had a daughter. It’s almost as if she never existed…
Will he be able to save his sister? Or is she lost forever?

About the author

J. Sharpe writes suspense novels, which, considering where you’re reading this, makes perfect sense. He’s best known for the fact that he blends themes and elements from two or more different genres in his books, including the bestseller Eden (nominated for a Bastaard Award) Syndrome (nominated for a Harland award and Bastaard Award) and Broken Memory (also nominated for a Harland Award). He is also the author of "Publish" a publishing guide for authors. He is one of the founders of Cutting-edge-studio.com, a one-stop-shop for authors looking for services like cover design, book trailers, descriptions, editing, courses, and more.
His work is often compared to that of Stephen King, Peter Straub and Dean Koontz, although Sharpe is complimented for his own distinctive style.
So far 13 novels and several short stories have been published in The Netherlands and Belgium.
His work is translated in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. A few of his books are also available in braille.

You get curious to see what happens next.
You sort of wish it were longer, though I can't see how.
There's no linguistic fluff (unnecessary words), just the occasional linguistic kerfuffle. Now, on to the story.
Fascinating
Look, I'll read darn near anything. I'm one of those people.
Something about the story pulled me along. What would happen next? How could the protagonist get out of this mess? Could they survive?
There are logically clunky elements, imo, which is weird to say because there's no "logic" in a dream world. Still...I dunno, there's room for improvement.
Sharpe is clearly talented and enthusiastic in his story telling, and I don't feel bad giving him 4 stars. He deserves them.
errors, but in the end, it will leave you hanging...
No spoilers, but I will say that readers should expect a psychedelic tale that is equal part suspense and horror. The pacing is quick, just like 'Eden', clearly a trademark of this author.
The tone was perhaps a bit too bleak for my taste, but I enjoyed the rapid action and imaginative storytelling.

This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.
Can't wait to read more of these.
Recommend reading.

Peter is out with his sister at a shopping mall when she vanishes from the changing rooms. When Peter asks for help the staff suggest that Aisha is a figment of his imagination and that he came into the store alone...
No one from this point on will acknowledge that Peter has a sister who has now disappeared. His dad has become addicted to alcohol since the death of Peters mother 2 years ago and is aggressive if challenged so Peter turns to his friend from childhood Hannah who appears to want to believe him, but also suggests he see a psychiatrist.
He then appears to wake up in a small grey room with no sunlight or facilities. ‘Medics’ lead him to believe that he is in some kind of hospital but these don’t appear to be your usual kind of doctors. Is Peter having a nightmare? Is his in a drug induced psychosis or is there something else going on...?
I spent most of this book feeling confused mixed in with a smattering of ‘oh I’m getting it now’ then back to confused. Which I learnt when I finished the story that this was the authors intention (including the ending) 😂
Peter’s bewilderment became mine so this story did have me hooked (although at one point I nearly gave up as it felt a little chaotic).
I liked the diversion of the individuals not experiencing a ‘typical kidnapping’ and the ending being left open is an interesting tactic. I do feel I need an ending though as it feels unfinished to me but it could be that it is not my norm. It definitely forces you to answer your own unanswered questions which means the book continues to have an impact well after you have completed the written page.
Well done to J Sharpe for this unusual thriller that pushes you away from the predictable but it won’t be for everyone I suspect
