My old oven had an electronic display that unexpectedly quit when it was only three years old. After trying to replace and fix it, to no avail, I was looking for something a little more low-tech, and high functioning. I saw the name and, of course, was intrigued by this machine aptly named from the god of Norse mythology. I have had this range for a few months now, and I absolutely love it. It is easy to run, easy to clean, and it continues to work consistently with no problems. I also love using a cast iron grill that I purchased separately on the middle burner. I do like to use the convection fan, but sometimes forget to turn it off because it is so quiet.

We purchased this stove for an investment house. We installed it, and it looked great. It's a mid range appliance with a high end look. I had to return it. If I could give it a zero star rating I would. The design of the burners is such that you have to hold the knob for 10-30 seconds to keep the flame ignited, and even then it may not stay ignited until the burner has "warmed up". There is no fix for this faulty design, as the user of the stove, you just have to be patient. Imagine having to wait up to a minute or maybe more to get your coffee started every morning. Unacceptable! The specifications are incorrect on the website as well, it WILL NOT level to a 36" standard cabinet height. The adjustable legs are too short and the manufacture does not have longer legs. Nice customer service at THOR but seriously flawed products. Buy the BOSCH.

I bought this stove in 2017 and it's now 2020 and it's still going strong. No issues with it breaking down. The one and only thing that I don't like is the left burner on high goes beyond the pots I put on it, it's a little scary. I always feel like if I'm wearing long sleeves I'll catch on fire. I just have to keep that burner on medium. Otherwise, it's great.

Recently installed our new 30"" range. It looks beautiful and works great. We were especially impressed with the powerful burners. We were debating between a Wolf and this one. So far we are very impressed with the quality and the price.
I like the fact that the range top is powder coated black instead of my last range which was stainless. The black does not stain, and if you wipe it down carefully it will stay nice looking for a long time.

The burners do indeed burn like a thousand suns which is why I bought the stove in the first place. The broiler worked great first time out and the interior blue of the oven is very pleasing. I spent months researching gas stoves and then spent weeks worrying about buying this stove. I researched stoves obsessively. I had wanted a profession style stove like a Vulcan. So far I'm very happy ( except for all the smoke). Will keep updating.

UPDATE 2 years after purchase:

We purchased our range in the fall of 2017 and as of the fall of 2019 have had 5 service calls (FIVE!). Thankfully we purchased a 3-year warranty through the dealer (AJ Madison), or so we thought. That warranty was through a 3rd-party provider who quit servicing Thor (probably because the lack of quality found with Thor ranges was costing them too much in service department manpower). I was told by the 3rd party service provider that “Thor is now handling all service calls.”

So, I contacted Thor and explained that we had 1 burner that was leaking gas, 1 that wasn’t working at all, and 2 that were sporadic. In setting up the service call I asked them to send replacement thermocouples and gas supplies for 4 out of the 5 burners. They only sent 2 which were used to repair the 1 that had been leaking gas and the other that wasn’t working at all. Two weeks later, the one that had been leaking stopped working, and 2 other stopped igniting altogether. We now have 3 inoperable burners (the center one works, but we never use it)! And as I was cleaning the range top, I noticed the burner that had been leaking had been incorrectly re-assembled by the technician. Upon further investigation, it turns out he stripped the screw that holds the burner cup in place and the cup now sits crooked, which is probably why it doesn’t work. (The repair technician admitted he knew little about Thor ranges.)

I contacted Thor who said, “we only warranty our ranges for 2 years.” I then contacted AJ Madison several times by email and they wouldn't respond so I called. The first time the customer service rep said “I can’t help you; you have to speak with this person who is gone for the day.” I called the next day and after learning who I was, they put me on hold never returned to address my issues. After almost 40 minutes on hold, I hung up.

We love the idea ranges without digital electronics, which is why we went with Thor. But honestly this range has been nothing but trouble and Thor has made little to no effort to rectify things.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this range nor any other Thor product. You’ve been warned.

Original Review (2017):
I purchased this range through a different supplier. It delivered 5 days ago (Oct 2017) and I haven't had time to use it a bunch yet. But I have some observations.

What I love: It's really pretty.

What I don't love:

1. There isn't much flame range on the burners. They're pretty much either on or off; no range at all on the smallest burner (lowest flame setting is pretty much the same as the highest).

2. I baked some cookies using the convection feature, which I feel is kind of a joke. Yes, there is a fan and yes it does spin, but the cookies didn't bake evenly (using Silpat-lined Williams-Sonoma baking sheets). I had to rotate the sheets a couple of times during each batch. I've worked in commercial kitchens with real convection ovens and those put off some air. This one, you can't even hear the fan, that's how little air circulates.

3. We live in a turn of the 20th century town home with a shared concrete wall between our kitchen and our neighbor's. That meant running the gas line up through the floor instead of in the wall cavity. Big problem. The back of the stove has a FLAT panel that runs to the floor. In addition, there is a cross framing member that joins each side of the stove cabinet and sits only about 1/2" up from the floor. With our current scenario, we can't slide the stove into place. We could pick it up, move it over the gas supply and set it down, but what a pain when it's time to clean behind the stove.

If you're considering this stove, or their other models (I'm assuming it has a similar gas portal), the gas hookup is located in a SMALL well on the lower back panel, left side. You'll need your gas supply to be inset in the wall, about 1' up from the floor. Even then, finding room for a standard 4' gas line will be problematic. This seems to be a big design flaw.

NOTE: (AT THE TIME OF THIS POSTING) THE MANUAL DOESN'T INCLUDE SPECS FOR THE BACK OF THE UNIT, SO THE SUGGESTED HEIGHT FOR THE GAS LINE IS AN ESTIMATE.

Fantastic. Though my basis for comparison was a simple Kenmore unit we got at a local store, the upgrade is absolutely worth the price, and then some. Takes a little getting used to as the cast iron grates make a big difference, as do the much stronger burners. Oven holds temperatures very well. I do miss the drawer underneath the oven that my old one had, but not enough to cause any regrets overall.
