Top critical review
3.0 out of 5 starsA fun romp without much substance, needs better editing. My first experience with LitRPG. (Spoilers)

I would say the best thing about this book is how easy it is to read. Unfortunately, that's also its biggest downfall. There's not a whole lot of substance to it. And I didn't know that the story would have explicit and constant use of roleplaying game mechanics. As a tabletop gamer, I had surprisingly mixed feelings about this. It kinda makes it hard to take the story seriously when there's constant references to experience, inventory slots, the MC actually looking at his own health and mana bar, etc. It's a bit strange. But if you're into LitRPG I'm sure this is exactly what you're looking for. The MC was also very overpowered, especially one particular spell he gets later on. The level system didn't seem to mean much in comparison to the MC - at one point he faces a character that's 10 levels higher than him, but he manages to kill him almost instantly with one spell (the aforementioned overpowered spell). It kinda reminded me of Dragon Ball Z with power levels.
The MC having casual sex with dwarf women was pretty funny - kinda reminded me of a sort of D&D James Bond. But again makes it hard to take the story seriously. So when the more dramatic parts of the story came up near the end of the book, they didn't have much impact. I would say I enjoyed the first quarter of the book the most, before all the dwarven stuff, which ended up being basically the entire story. I figured the MC would go on a journey through many different kinds of places, but it almost entirely revolved around this dwarven kingdom which was a bit of a letdown.
There's also a fair amount of errors that made it past proofing, as others have mentioned.
To be honest I'm a bit surprised by all the five star reviews, but I did read through the whole thing, it's easy to read, and certainly "fun" so it's not that bad. I would recommend it to WoW/Tabletop addicts age 25 or under.
